Jack and Jill are chocolate labs that were adopted from Dogsfriends 2 years ago, very sadly their owner passed away and so now him and Jill are back with us to find a new home. They are fantastic little dogs  who love everyone and everything, great with kids, other dogs, chickens, sheep, puppies etc. They are good offlead too and loves their walks, but are also partial to a good game of ball. Jack is around 10 years old and Jill about 8.

Rolex is a large, very people and child friendly Rottie cross.  He is three years old and neutered.  His owner adores him but has now been made redundant and is homeless.  So poor Rolex is homeless too. He is coming to me tonight but really needs a forever or foster home urgently. Rolex has not lived with other dogs or with cats so do not know how he will be.  So probably best to go as an only foster dog so he can be fully assessed.

Rolex is house trained and can be left for periods of time. He has settled in well and understand commands well ie sit, down, on your
bed and wait. He is gentle with food and sits and waits for you to put his bowl down. Rolex loves his cuddles and can be very playful and if he wants to go out he will ask to by tapping at door. What a fab dog. Out on walks he will walk with you but if he sees cats or dogs he does pull and can come across as aggressive towards them at times... which we are working on at the min. But never with people or kids he just walks on by.

Star is a tiny Yorkie who has had several major life changes over the
last few months.She really deserves a quiet, peaceful, knowledgeable home by herself as
soon as possible. Star is 8 years old and, though she has always lived with Coco, appears
to have got fed up with her and longing for her own people.

Gracie is a young husky, about 10 months old. She was handed into our rescue by our local dog warden having served her time in the pound, after being found tied to a lamp post. She is a typical husky, very playful, high energy and always up to mischief. She gets on great with all of our own dogs, large and small and with Moriarty who is the 8 week old puppy we're fostering. She's met my cats and whilst she didn't eat them I wouldn't trust her with them. She has a very high prey drive and can open most doors and climb out of most fences, as you can see from the above photo (to watch a video of Gracie getting to that spot on the trees click the link below and you'll be directed to our extra website, where you can see a video of gracie playing with her friends and escaping the back garden, just click on the extra photos page) sadly she has had 2 chickens and grabbed a duck that got away. So no feathered friends for her I'm afraid. She has now earned the nickname Disgracie! That said she is just a wonderful dog who is so loving and intelligent. Some husky rescues will tell you never to let them off lead but we've found with our own huskies that they run well off lead with our pack of dogs, but we'd make sure that there was no livestock nearby and Gracie has always been easy to catch when she's got out into the field (via the door or over the fence) as she is very driven by food. Please only apply for Gracie if you really have read up on the breed and are prepared to put some work into her. The last thing she needs is someone else to let her down. The photo was taken when she first came in 2 months ago, she is now up to weight and has a great coat on her, more photos to follow shortly.

Jess arrived here with Amy.  She is also an ex breeding girl.  Jess is very sweet and loving.  We were told is about 4 years old.   Jess will need a home with at least one other friendly little dog.

Amy is a very sweet, pretty little Westie.  She has been used for breeding and has now come to us to find a forever home.  Amy is about 4 years old and will need to live with at least one other friendly little dog as she has never lived in a house before.  Also, she has a couple of lumps which our vets will check out on Tuesday.

Matilda was another lovely dog that arrived here on Friday from Wales.  She is a 4 year old yellow Labrador, daughter of Fudge and sister or Bess and Snickers - all of whom we have recently rehomed and all of whom were lovely, lovely Labs. Matilda is exceptionally gentle, kind and very special.

Lucy is a lovely, very friendly, chunky Chocolate Labrador who is about
4 years old.  Her previous owner has given her to us to find her a
wonderful new home as they have finished breeding from her.  Lucy is
loving being out and about with all the other dogs here.  She is very
happily sharing a bedroom with Matilda.  Lucy will need to live with
another friendly Labrador/s as she has always been with other dogs. 
She has not lived in a house before so will need help adjusting.
 

Pixie is a friendly, amiable, gentle little dog.  She has come into my home with her kennel mate Daisy and fitted in straightaway with my children aged 4 and 9 and my four rescue cats, who she completely ignores.  She loves playing with toys and will chase a ball.   Pixie loves her tummy rubs and sitting on my lap. She is still getting used to being on a lead and has improved over the last couple of days.  She would make a lovely addition to any family.

Sidney is one of the five we recently took in from a farm as their owner had sadly recently died.  The other 4 have now gone in to foster homes.  Poor Sid is left here.  He is a lovely, gentle, scared little chap and really needs his own forever (or even a foster) home asap please.  He is booked to be neutered on Thursday and it would be great if he can go in to a lovely home to recuperate straight after. He is wary of the other dogs here and is rather sad the rest of his pack have gone. Please consider little Sidney - he is a cracking, smart dog.

Biscuit is a 4 year old Chocolate Labrador cross Springer Spaniel.  He is lovely but VERY overweight and in need of a hair cut.  He's been very much loved and is in good condition apart from being obese.  Poor Biscuit's owner became too ill to look after him.  She said he did not like other dogs as he had been attacked by a huge dog when he was a little puppy.  Yesterday he was very quiet and shy but today has transformed in to a lively, happy, waggy, playful dog with all people
and the other dogs.

Roxy is a lovely 4 year old Westie cross Shih Tzu.  She is beautiful, well mannered and seems good with everything.  She is being fostered in Bristol.  We are sure she will be snapped up quickly.

Jess is a red and white collie, 3yrs old.   Her lovely gentle nature is written all over her beautiful face.  She is so willing to please, but is a little timid, as she flinches at quick movements.  She would benefit from some confidence building, she is a quick learner and obedient.  She loves the company of other dogs,  snuggling up with you on the sofa watching TV, running around and long walks - (whether you
take her or she takes herself - although she returns on her own within 10 minutes).  She is excellent with cats, dogs, horses and children (following my 5 yr old granddaughter with utter devotion).  She takes treats very gently and has the little quirk of juddering her teeth together when content.  Jess needs a home with someone who will return her  love and devotion and encourage her confidence.

Elsie is a very good little dog but she has a huge character.  She is full of life and loves having fun.  She is very good with other dogs and has done really well with her house training.  Elsie is still very nervous and not ready to allow strangers to touch her.  She is good in the car and really enjoys her walks.  She is as quick as lightening and enjoys teasing my other dogs by out running them. Elsie is great fun but would need the companionship of at least one other fun loving dog.  My children all love 'Elsie to bits as she is a real tease, quick and has a huge play drive. Her recall is excellent when out walking and she is trying really hard to understand her basic basic commands. Elsie needs a forever home that is willing to work slowly with her trust issues and is ready to have lots of fun!

Bruno was found as a stray in Beacon last summer.  This poor boy has been living in a rescues kennel since then.  He finds it hard in kennels it seems as he is very sensitive and does not like the life. He is a Boxer cross Rottie.  ¦He is very thin due to kennel stress.  Bruno shares a room with Poppy collie and they get on very well.

Further details and updates shortly.  Bruno really ,really needs to be pampered in a foster home to help him put on weight and gain confidence.

Poppy was a stray like Big Bruno and has spent an equally long time in rescue kennels longing for her own forever home. She is an excellent, calm, friendly collie type fluffy dog.  She needs to be in a foster home to be better assessed.  There is a picture of her on the website laying next to a toddler - we are told she is excellent with kids.

Bruno is a 5yr old JRT who has been handed in to DF's due to his owners change in personal circumstances. He has lived with the same family since a puppy. Bruno is a friendly character, who loves his walks and has good recall. He is house trained and can be left for several hours. His owner says he does not like cats or other dogs but he has been ok when walked with others here at the kennels. Bruno has been a much loved pet and desperately needs a loving home with no small children or other pets. More updates to follow as he continues to be assessed.

Update for Bruno

Hello, my name is Bruno. I have been in kennels for several months now waiting for someone special to come along and to realise I am just a lovable little chap. I get a bit grumpy with some dogs if they are pushy with me, just grumbles really, Im not that bad. I walk out very nicely with my doggie chums I have made at the kennels, namely Tequila and AK. Paddy was my mate aswell, but it seems the lucky chap has found his forever home, good for him but I hope it will be me next.
The only bad habit I have (I am being honest with you now) is that I hate being put back in the kennel. I try and have a little snap but its only because I dont want to left again. Im sure in a proper home with someone nice and sensible I would soon get the hang of the things, so I didnt worry anymore and then I would be no trouble at all. I walk very well on the lead and am a quiet little chap. I like a fuss and am very friendly when you come and see me and take me out, as I said it
 just that horrible kennel door closing on me that I hate. I'm so lonely now that Paddy's gone, we used to have a chat over the wall about our dream homes. I dont ask for much, couple of walks a day and a bit of attention, I love my food so Im sure you could easily bribe me into being a very well behaved little man.

Maximillion is a very handsome 3 year old dog who is Westie cross Sky Terrier cross Cain Terrier.  You can easily see all three of these breeds in his make up.  He is a lovely, good boy. He was owed by an elderly couple since he was a little puppy but they sadly became too ill to look after him and to give him the exercise and guidance he needs.  The couple handed him in to their local rescue a while ago but, sadly, he did not 'show' himself well in kennels and no-one wanted him.  So rather then him be pts, Max was handed over to another rescue last week who have now handed him to us. Amazingly, after all these changes in his life, Maximillion is a very happy, waggy dog who has not put a paw wrong here and has been a total pleasure.  He loves being out and about with the other dogs and is just lovely.  We are being very calm and kind to him to let him settle of course.

We want a very special, forever home for him now - with no more changes after this.  The vast majority of dogs like a settled, ordered, balanced life living in a suitable pack (be it with just humans or, even better, with other dogs too) and it really is heartbreaking what so many of them have to go through.

Eric has come to us as part of an unsold litter of pups, he is around 6 months old and a Chihuahua x Poodle. He hasn't lived in a home before and really only knows about life in kennels with his litter mates, he has had little human contact. He is very sweet but has had to go back to square one with the housetraining and learning about living in a house.  He is understandably nervous about some things as he hasn't met much in his short life.

Update April 2013

Eric arrived with his father (Bonzo) and several of his litter mates a few weeks ago.   He was by far the most nervous and scared of the group.  It has been fairly hard to help him and he has had to be moved around several times - which I hate having to do to dogs. Anyway, the good news is that he has been here for the last couple of weeks and has really blossomed as we have all 'ignored' him and just
let him live with our wonderful Billy and Sammy.  They are such good, kind dogs and their good points have given Eric a huge boost and he has grown hugely in confidence and courage. Eric has gone to a new foster home to.  The family live on a small holding (which is what it is here) and have other friendly dogs.  So
hopefully Eric will continue to improve and mature. He is a lovely scruffy chocolate coloured dog just coming up to 1 year old.  He has been neutered and is up to date with everything he needs from the vet.  Eric will only be rehomed where there is at least one other friendly dog to help him.

Bonzo is very sociable and is good with my children.  He is about 18 months old and has been used as a stud dog, so he only used to living in kennels and will need to start from scratch with housetraining and the basics like walking on a lead. He likes lots of cuddles and attention. He did chase a cat in the garden this morning so a home without cats or with a brave one that would stand it's ground might suit best.

Update April 2013

Bonzo has  been with us for 2 weeks and we haven’t had any “accidents” for 5 days. As long as he goes out regularly, he is fine.    He will now sit when asked, especially if you have a treat in your hand! He loves to be cuddled and will come when called in the garden.  I haven’t taken him out on a lead yet as he is awaiting the second part of his inoculation.   My very large tom cat has put Bonzo in his place and he now has a healthy respect for my 4 cats. We even had Bonzo, Euan and 2 of my cats sharing the sofa last night.    Bonzo (called Bobo by my children) would make an ideal companion/pet  as he likes lots of attention and has a lovely nature. He deserves a nice home

Update May 2013

This little dog is a pleasure to look after. He is loving and gentle, brilliant with my 2 young children and 4 cats.  He loves his walks and is very good on the lead.  His recall is getting better and he has been socialising with other dogs he meets on his walks, though still a little nervous when first meeting them.
I cannot understand why someone hasn't taken him home, he is a little treasure.

She is Staffy x Basset, a great all round people dog, although playful and friendly with dogs she can be a bit intense and with her exuberance in play so is better being hoimed with only a young dog or as an only pet,she is a very lyoal dog, loves company, she is strong, lively and full of life, if you like a dog with a big character then you will LOVE Tia, as we do xx

We received a phone call on Wednesday asking if we would take in a young dog that had to be rehomed as he had bitten and was vicious with people and dogs. I explained we were so full, plus we have lots of lovely, good dogs that can't find a forever home, so why would anyone want to adopt a hugely problemic dog?  But, because we try and help all dogs, I would see what we can do.

Short story (and because we could not bear to not give him a chance), after help from several others (thank you Sophia and Stuart especially), his owners delivered Paddy here yesterday morning.  They gave the volunteers dire warnings of how dangerous he they thought he is...... But all I can see is one of the most terrified little dogs to ever arrive here.  We called Quake, the young collie, that name because he quaked so much to start with.  But Paddy quakes non-stop.  We have never had such a shaking, scared soul. He is a three year old, Corgi cross Jack Russell and is very pretty.  He has been neutered but is very obsese and has very long nails. We will do the best to help him and that will mean ignoring him and going in to his big stable bedroom with some of the very balanced, laid back Labradors that live here.  We will spend time in there with him, constantly ignoring him, so that he can observe how dogs can and should be with people.

So as soon as he is more chilled (which should take a day or so) I will let him out loose on the yard with some of the other dogs and let him discover the joy of freedom and exercise. I will do another update as to how he is getting on in a couple of days. I am sure he will be a fabulous loyal dog given time and support.

So, no matter how busy, tired or stressed we are, things like this are one of the reasons we keep going.  He was booked to be pts at 10.40 yesterday morning.  Now he has a chance....................

update 3rd september 2012

Paddy had a VERY good day today and has finally stopped quaking. First thing this morning I took a chair in to his room and several of my calm balanced dogs, plus a dish of high value food.  I sat on the chair and quietly gave my dogs little bits of food.  Paddy watched - shaking though interested.  We stayed there for about a quarter of an hour. A couple of hours later, I went and sat with him again, this time taking several of the friendly, playful young Cavaliers.  They made a huge fuss of me and vice versa.  Again, Paddy sat in his bed, watching very carefully as to what was going on.  After about 10 minutes, I went out but left a couple of the young Cavs in with him. A little later, I went back and left the stable door open.  The pups came out and, after an hour or so, Paddy gingerly emerged too.  He then spent the whole afternoon carefully exploring the whole yard and meeting quite a few of the other dogs. He went back in about three hours later, ate the whole of his tea (of sardines in sunflower oil and Royal Canin mini) then stretched out on his big bed and chilled. Some volunteers went back in a bit later, again with several of the balanced young Cavaliers, and fed them all little bits of roast chicken.  After a little time,  Paddy actually came out of his bed and quietly mixed with the other 6 to get his share of the chicken. This is huge, quick progress for this lovely little dog.  I am sure he is going to turn out to be a very happy, good boy.  Pictures and further updates to follow..........

update 6th september 2012

Paddy has had several really good days and is hugely happier now then when he first arrived.He has discovered the joys of playing outside, both exploring the fields and playing with other dogs. He has been excellent to take for lead walks by our volunteers. When he sees me, he runs up wagging his tail.  Though he is eating well, the weight is dropping off him which is good, as he was very fat when he arrived. We are now looking for a very special foster or, preferably, forever home for Paddy, He will be happier living with at least one other youngish role model dog and with a family who is willing to continue helping Paddy make huge progress towards being a happy, calm, healthy balanced dog (with our full advice and support).

update february 2013

I have fostered Paddy for 3 weeks and in a space of a couple of days I had a loving, lovable little dog. He is house trained, polite and no trouble around the house. Sammy my JRT and Pads loved playing together, and when I took him to the livery yard where my horse is twice a day he was no trouble. Big bouncy dogs make him nervous, but he will happily ignore them if they allow it. He does need confident dog friendly people around him, but he knows "No" and if he is in the wrong he soon comes to you to apologise and be friends. He certainly knows how to be cute and appealing. A warm hearth or lap are Paddy's favourite places, followed by completely disappearing under your bed covers at night! I have seen evidence that it was likely a man who caused Paddy's problems in the first place, but he has not had a problem with any who are confident, ignore him or in one case growled back at him then ignored him. He is a little dog who craves love and needs confidence, with some discipline.

Paddy is still waiting for his forever home. He is a dear little soul who just needs the right home with a confident person/people. Someone who has terrier experience would be ideal. He is a very affectionate boy once he gets to know you and is very obdient. He is a little wary of men to start with but only if they are not confident. Crumble been here a week and is very calm and settled. He has total command of the house and the sleeps on the couch. Yesterday he actually played with his soft toy of his own accord! He is fantastic out in the fields and his recall is excellent. He allowed me to give him a little wash and a brush and looks very smart now. Plus he happily wears his posh red collar. He has a very small appetite and loves to sleep alot. He would make a lovely pet especially to someone who has a very calm environment, where he could just be in their company, like a buddy. At the moment he is asleep at my feet whilst I'm typing.

Crumble has been with me a month and is a much more settled dog, this last week he has been a happy little chappie, plays with his toy and rolls around on his blanket. He is very obedient, eats well and has always been very clean in the house. He seems to prefer meeting small dogs rather than large. I am sure he would settle in a home that already has a small/medium size dog as a friend for him. I am only his foster mum but I love him very much and would love him to find a forever home.

Arthur is a young very friendly chap (about 14 months old) who was abandoned at the kennels by his previous owner. Dont know why this was as he is such a lovely boy, we have found out though that he is completely deaf. This doesnt worry him, when dogs are born deaf they know no different and just get on with their lives. Special care is needed with a deaf dog, very important to build a good bond with them for a start before letting them off lead, for obvious reasons. Arthur just loves people and so far he has got on fine with all dogs he has met. He just loves to go out for his walks. As he has spent several months now in kennels, he does get very excited when he first sees you and pulls for the first couple of minutes but after that he trots along very nicely on the lead. In a home environment, with the right exercise this would improve. He just needs a home and some stability and routine.
Deaf dogs are trained using hand signals, repetition exercises with rewards work very well, he can sit to the hand signal already, he is clever and very willing to learn. As he is so young it would be a good idea to take him to a class to further on his training with the help of a qualified teacher who may have worked with deaf dogs before. We think Arthur is a very special boy and will blossom in the right
 home. He is a strong lad and would not be suitable where there are young children just because he may knock them over. As Arthur is a very young dog he would need someone who is home most of the time, he has been alone for too long now and needs his special home where he will be cherished. Dottie is a very dinky, delightful 6 year old Dalmatian who has recently retired as a breeding dog.  She has come over from Wales for us to find her a wonderful, happy forever home. She has been 100 per cent with all and everything here.  Even though it must be very daunting for her to be away from the only home she has ever known, she has been so brave. Dottie has now gone in to a foster home where she is thriving.  The foster carer is hoping to adopt her and will be letting us know for
sure shortly.

Molly and Milly are litter sisters, but recently they haven't been getting on, so they are being rehomed. They are good with children and other dogs and like to socialise with other dogs in the park. Both are housetrained and good offlead, although they pull a little onlead. Mollie is more cuddly than Millie but both are people friendly. Mollie has tan ears. Millie is the one with black ears. They are 11 months old and both spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

Alfie (Gixer) is a gorgeous staffi x jrt pup who came in with his brother Charlie (Yammie, he has been homed ) They were rescued from being drowned by some lovely rescuers who had hoped they'd be able to keep them, but their landlord refused so they came to dogsfriends to find new forever homes. Charlie has been rehomed and so just Alfie is still looking. Alfie is great with people and other dogs walks well on lead is house trained and neutered he would make a great addition to any family !! Please consider giving this loving boy a home he didn't have the best start in life and so deserves a place to call home . He looks like a mini staffie and is very short, more jack russell sized.

We have been fostering Alfie for a couple of months and as you an see he gets on well with my female Staffie and is great with my kids. He is a pleasure to have around and he is house trained and good on and off lead, he is castrated and will make a excellent friendly little addition to any family.
