Background –
Esther was picked up as a stray in a very bad way, she was severely matted and extremely neglected. After serving her time in the pound, Esther came to us to start her recovery and has made big progress over the last month in foster care.
Character –
Esther is a sweet little soul who loves affection from her trusted humans, but is anxious about new people and environments so needs patience and reassurance.
Esther is very bright and active – a real little pocket rocket. Esther has come on leaps and bounds already and has been a really good girl in her foster home – she has even discovered the joy of tummy tickles!
Type of home –
Esther is best suited to a home with someone happy to support her on her journey, as she will be a little bit of a project. This nervous girl is in need of a huge amount of love and reassurance.
Esther will need a home with at least one other dog who is happy to play with her, and an environment on the calmer end of the scale (small children would be overwhelming for her).
Esther will need her own quiet space to retreat to in the early days (not a crate) and with someone who doesn’t expect too much of her initially – essentially she needs to experience the world at her own pace with no expectations until she learns that the world does not always have to be such a scary place.
Esther walks well on the lead but is still a nervous girl and can get spooked easily on walks, she will require a secure harness and patience whilst she learns that walks can be fun!
Other notes –
Esther travels well in the car, is okay to be left alone for a couple of hours (with another dog).
Esther still needs some ongoing guidance with her toilet training, she has shown improvement in her very short time in foster care so far but still has accidents in the household at times.
Adopting –
Esther is in foster care in Langport and successsful applicants would need to come and meet her here. Esther would benefit from an extra visit with her new family after the initial meet to help her transition.
