Background –
Harper was surrendered to us as a ‘retired’ breeding dog and went straight into a caring foster home with us.
Character –
Harper is a lovely gentle soul who, as with most of the ex-breeding spaniels we care for, is friendly but cautious and craves gentle affection.
We think that Harper’s background was neglectful, and as such she craves human affection and reassurance. Her new family would need to be ready to provide cuddles to this golden girl on-tap! She is very ready to be fully embraced as an adored family member.
Despite her background, Harper is very friendly to everyone and is fairly confident in new environments. She loves joining the family on outings and adventures and really enjoys her walks. She loves meeting other dogs when out and about and reads their body language well.
Harper sleeps through the night in her crate in her foster mum’s bedroom, is calm and settles well in the home.
Harper has a lovely temperament and would be the most wonderful companion.
Type of home –
Harper is a gentle girl who would suit a calm home that can provide quality exercise and lots of affection. She is a mature dog with medium activity levels so she does not need hours and hours of exercise, she could fit in with a less active family who can provide daily walks and enrichment for her clever spaniel brain. The most important thing to her would be that she is embraced as a loved and adored family member.
Ex-breeding dogs really thrive in the company of other dogs and gain a lot of confidence from them. Harper has really enjoyed the company of another dog in her current foster home and her new home must have a friendly canine companion to help her continue to gain confidence in all things dog!
Harper has not lived with children whilst in our care, but given her temperament, we think she would be fine living with children as long as their interactions were calm and respectful. A loud and boisterous household would be unsettling for her, so we think any resident children may need to be slightly older.
Harper has not lived with cats whilst in our care, but has not shown any interest in them whilst out on walks.
Harper is fully house-trained and can be left at home for a short time, although can become anxious when first left so a canine pal and some enrichment toys should be at hand.
She travels well in the car and enjoys going out on family adventures!
Health –
Harper came to us with some patchy hair loss from pyoderma, thought to be a result of neglect and lack of nutrition. Her foster family have been treating this under the guidance of our vets and her condition has improved greatly. She is still itchy, understandably, and her foster family are treating this with various soothing methods. Any medical care that is required will be shared with successful applicants
Adopting –
Harper is in a foster home in Clevedon and successful applicants will need to come and meet her here.
