Background –
Hunter was picked up as a stray and was traumatised by the experience, but has proven to be a sweet and loving dog. It is suspected that he was used for hare coursing and then dumped.
Character –
Hunter is a lovely and affectionate boy who really gets on with all humans, he loves being greeted by strangers and told how handsome he is! He is relaxed when at home with his calm foster parents.
He’s always happy to be taken out for walks but is mildly reactive to other dogs when he is on lead so does require someone who is confident to manage this behaviour, prepared to muzzle where appropriate and continue reward based training.
With other dogs –
Hunter will happily plod around the secure fields with other dogs, but finds other dogs jumping up and trying to play boisterously a bit annoying. Hunter is also described as food aggressive by his foster family and so needs to be kept completely separate from other pets at meal times. He is doing well sharing his foster home with 2 small female terriers, so could possbile share a home with other calm, non-reactive dogs but would also be well suited as an only dog.
Type of home –
Hunter settles well in the home and would like a chilled out home with someone who likes to go out for calm walks – a busy family home would be too much for him.
Due to Hunter’s breed and suspected coarsing background he would not be suited to a home with cats and other small furries. Hunter is responding well to muzzle training in his foster home.
Hunter loves his human company and would love a home where he has company most of the time.
Hunter had not lived in a home before but is responding well to potty training in his foster home and they see improvement every day. He will require patience and some further training with this when moving into his new forever home.
Adopting –
Hunter is in foster care near Weston and successful applicants will need to come and meet him here.
