Background –
Ivy was born in rescue in late 2024. She was adopted at 8 weeks old but has unfortunately been returned. Ivy was very confused and nervous when she arrived, but she has made great progress thanks to her fantastic foster carers.
Character –
Ivy is a typical Cocker Spaniel – she is clever, energetic, keen to learn and very affectionate. Ivy’s foster carer says – “Ivy is a lovable fully of energy puppy that just needs some focused training. She is food obsessed and therefore very good to train, but struggles to hold attention in busy environments. She is playful with dogs on her walks and shows no signs of aggression. She has shown absolutely no signs of resource guarding in her foster home but has been trained on this throughout her stay.
Ivy needs a lot of exercise and is strong on the lead. She loves water, so gardens with a pond aren’t recommended! Ivy just needs patience and discipline, all of her traits during foster care are classic behaviours of her age and breed.”
Type of home –
Ivy needs a sensible and active home with someone who has experience of a high-energy, clever dog. It’s important that her new family have time (and patience) to dedicate to her training and socialisation. Ivy does get on well with other dogs (she was very happy to say hello to playful Greyhound Sanka) but as her previous home stated that her resource guarding was directed towards other dogs, a home as a solo pooch may be a safer bet. Ivy does not walk nicely on the lead (and walking her is very hard work at the moment) so needs a lot of training with this. Ivy needs some support with building up time alone as she isn’t used to being home by herself.
Home set up –
Ivy was crated in her previous home, but it was very clear that the crate was causing stress for her and now she has the ability to find her own spot she is much more relaxed and calm. Ivy now sleeps really well through the night on the landing outside her foster parents room and we’d like her new family to allow for this set up. Ivy would like a home with a safe and secure garden as she is an energetic pooch.
Health –
Ivy is up to date with all of her vaccinations and is in good health.
Adopting –
Ivy is in foster care in North Bristol and applicants would need to come and visit her here.
