About This Project

Rex

Age: 3 years

Breed: Rottweiler

Donation: £400

  • Needs an experienced, physically capable adult only home
  • Best as an only dog
  • Not cat tested

Background

Rex came to us when his family were no longer able to care for him.

Character

Rex is a bundle of energy and fun! This happy boy exhibits all the clumsy and playful behaviours typical of his breed.

Luckily he is a very intelligent boy and loves his food so he responds very well to positive training! He is learning to walk well on the lead and he gets rewarded when all 4 paws are on the ground. In typical Rottweiler style, he is picking up all his new commands like a pro.

Rex has shown tendency to resource guard and will need a home who can manage this. Rex will need ongoing support with this, and does not respond well to ‘forceful training’ (this is not something we would ever promote anyway), so will need a home with people who are willing to use positive reinforcement methods.

He loves to play ball and has shown excellent recall in our secure fields at the kennels.

Rex hasn’t been reactive with other dogs at all in kennels but we have not observed him in a home environment with another dog.

Type of home

We are looking for a physically capable, adult only home with people willing to invest time and effort into training.

It’s possible that Rex may have mild separation anxiety as he becomes stressed when initially returned to his kennel, however, this may be due to his world being turned upside down recently, he does settle though and with his love of food, we think this could be managed with training. So his new family would need to be patient with this.

We are unsure of how Rex would behave around cats as he has not been tested.

Adopting

Rex is a resident at our kennels near Wells, Somerset and successful applicants will need to come and meet him here,
