Background

Rocket came into our care after being found as a stray and not being claimed from the warden. Rocket arrived in a terrible state with a fractured jaw, a lump under his leg, matted fur, bad teeth and 2 inch long claws preventing him from walking comfortably. He was groomed by a lovely volunteer groomer and went straight into an experienced foster home.

Character

Amazingly considering how much pain this lad must have been in, Rocket is the perfect companion dog, he loves to be with you and is a total sweetheart. He is very affectionate, loves his cuddles and will dish out kisses.

He’s happy having his harness put on, being picked up and being bathed and dried, but was a little grumbly when being handled to put on his body suit after operations, understandably. He has never snapped and is easily distracted with treats when requiring treatment,

Rocket by name but not by nature, he enjoys a gentle plod around for 30 minutes but will have a good snooze after. He’s likely not used to having much exercise given how long his claws were, but he does enjoy being outside for a sniff about. He wouldn’t cope with fast-paced walks or long hikes but would enjoy a gentle stroll, cafe or garden centre visit. He walks very well on a lead.

He has been in foster with 7 other dogs, large and small and is happy hanging out with them but prefers human company.
He communicates well with other dogs and gives them a little grumble if they try to take his toys from him or if they approach him in a boisterous way. This polite older gentleman never snaps and just lets everyone know his boundaries and that he likes a quiet life.

He fully potty trained and has been such a tidy guest in his foster home that he even wipes his paws on the mat when he comes back in!
He can manage stairs and jump onto the bed or sofa but is happy to be picked up and carried. He will even do a little jump to help you pick him up.

He travels well in the car and loves travelling about with his foster buddies to the secure field for a potter about.

As Rocket prefers a quiet life and doesn’t like to share his toys we feel he would not be suited to a home with young or active children.

He is not clingy when in the home and will happily settle on his bed to relax all day but he does not like to be alone so would be best suited to a home where he would have company most of the time, and whom would be prepared to work on increasing his alone time gradually if required.

Health

Rocket had a lump removed from the armpit area, which was diagnosed as a low-grade sarcoma with narrow margins. If this returns it will need to be removed. His full medical profile from whilst he has been in our care will be made available to potential adopters,

He has had 10 teeth removed and his jaw is healing from a fracture but he is eating very well and playing with balls with no issues. Nothing stops this little champ!

Adopting

Rocket is in foster care in Axbridge and successful applicants will need to come and meet him here.
