Background

Ronnie joined Dogs Friends when his owner had a change in their living circumstances and was no longer able to keep him.

Character

Ronnie is an introverted little chap who really loves to bond to one or two people. He may take a day to come around, but bonds hard and loves to be wherever his people are. His favourite activities are cuddling, being carried and burrowing into blankets. Ronnie can take a couple of minutes to warm up to new people but once he has “his person” feels reassuranced around unknown/scary things.

Although introverted, Ronnie has lots of playful and funny antics that keep his foster parents entertained! (See videos)

Inside the home, Ronnie is quite settled. He recognises his crate as a safe space, and will hop in there for night time or when he is being left alone. He would really love an extra-large blanket in his crate to really snuggle into, and loves the crate to be covered by another blanket for extra cosiness. Did we mention that blankets are life for this boy?!

The outside world is very scary for Ronnie. He is happy to trot around the garden, but will bolt to hide from loud noises or big gusts of wind that might blow him away!

Ronnie travels well in the car inside his travel crate, although he is very scared of a lead and harness and would much prefer to be chauffeured to and from the car like the prince that he is for the time being. His foster mum is working patiently with him with gentle collar and lead exposure and he is making amazing progress!

Type of home

Ronnie is anxious of the outside world, and would love a home where he can remain safe in his home with the occasional calm adventure.
He would prefer a smaller family (ideally a single person or couple) so he can bond with his people and feel safe.
He would find a busy household with lots of visitors stressful, and although he does seek his crate as a safe space when he feels scared, his new family would need to be mindful and accommodating of this.

Ronnie could live with one or two other gentle dogs (he is only a wee thing), and may find their presence and confidence comforting. He would be equally happy to be an only dog so he can have all the affection!

He is fine to be left at home in his crate for a few hours when his family need to pop out.

Ronnie would find a home with young and boisterous children too overwhelming and scary. We feel he would prefer an adult-only home.

Ronnie will need a home that is patient and understanding when it comes to toilet training. He is disciplined at having his wees outside but finds indoors more appealing for pooping. With consistent and gentle training he should learn to potty outside. Living with other dogs may help to support him with this learning.

Ronnie has been nervous at vet visits and has found strange handlers very upsetting, his new family will need to be prepared for this and ensure that their registered vets are willing to work gently and patiently with you at any required vet visits.

Adopting

Ronnie is in a foster home in BS16, Bristol and successful applicants will need to come and meet him here.
