Background: Ruby arrived in our care in June 2022 having spent the early years of her life with a breeder. Ruby was incredibly overweight and a little shy but she came on leaps and bounds in her foster home!

Character: Ruby is a super sweet-natured girl who just wants to be loved and give affection. She is mostly calm and relaxed (except if she spots a bird!). She loves to sleep (bed/sofa/floor – not too fussed!) and will happily cuddle up with you at night. Ruby walks well on the lead and has a fair amount of energy so could go on longer walks, but she’s equally happy chilling at home too! She enjoys her food but we are working hard to reduce her weight so portions are limited. Oh, and she loves feathers!

Type of home: Ruby seems content when left alone for a few hours as she will just relax and sleep until you return. She seems to be able to adapt easily to new surroundings and situations. She has already visited a few pubs/restaurants and shops and taken it all in her stride. Ruby also travels well in the car. Her foster home is fairly quiet and calm with no children and a resident dog. However on the few encounters she’s had with young children, she was impeccably behaved and therefore would make a great addition to any household, young or old. She gets a lot of attention when out – I think it’s the eyes!!

Dogs and cats: Ruby is great with other dogs but would need to introduced on neutral territory. Ruby is not cat tested so would be best suited to a home without cats.

Health: Ruby’s weight loss must continue for the sake of her long term health and welfare. As is very common with the breed, Ruby has a low grade heart murmur which does not currently require any specialist care or medication – nor does it slow her down!

Adoption process: Ruby is in foster care in Portishead and applicants must be willing to attend meet and greets at her foster home. Please ensure you read our adopting page before applying.
