Background –
Freddie has only ever known a breeding environment, lots of other dogs around, but he does love having his human around and needs this to be happy and relaxed. He’s not a Velcro dog but likes to hang out where his human is. In foster care he has slept quietly in the office while his carer works overnight.
Character –
Freddie is a happy, expressive, playful boy who loves company & fuss, chasing a ball, loves his walks with his dog pals, loves to run and explore. Good with other dogs, he can lack some manners by pushing in when treats are being given out and pinch toys from his friends though this is already getting better so he will need the usual ongoing training for a young dog.
His ideal companions would be other dogs who like a little boisterous play and to run around with and who don’t mind him snuggling up with them for a nap.
He wasn’t housetrained when he arrived but he’s quickly learned to do all his business in the garden and has mastered this well.
He walks pretty well on a lead, this may need work in public settings when encountering new things as he hasn’t seen much of the world. He will need continued training for recall, though he will go for a run or a sniff and return to his human and pals when he has been off lead in a secure field.
He’s welcoming to visitors and friendly to strangers he meets on walks and will go to them for a fuss. He’s still a puppy at heart and learning what he can and can’t chew, what are his toys and what is recycling!
He knows to sit when asked and takes treats gently. He loves his food and gets excited for meal times. He’s happy to have his harness and lead on and hops in the car ready to go on adventures & travels well. He will give the odd bark when he’s excited, if someone rings the door bell, or he’s doing neighbourhood watch out of the window but it’s not excessive, in fact he’s especially quiet for a schnauzer!
He isn’t yet used to being bathed and groomed and can be fearful causing him to thrash around trying to escape so he will need gradual and regular introductions to this to get him used to it and let him know it’s not that scary. He is shy around his head specifically when groomed.
Type of home –
Freddie would enjoy a lifestyle where he can go for daily walks and adventures and play ball. He loves to be outside so a good sized garden he can explore would be ideal.
He would like plenty of company with gradual introductions to being left for short periods.
A family who are aware of the grooming needs and are willing to help him gain his confidence being bathed & groomed.
He’s a quick learner, is full of character & a bit of goofiness that will make his new family laugh every day!
Health –
Freddie has a Grade 2 heart murmur which does not currently affect him at all.
