Background –
Pippa was sold on a selling site under the guise of being a pet of a deceased elderly relative. It quickly became apparent she was traumatised and fearful of everything, especially humans, pointing to a breeding background. The family that bought her thankfully reached out to get her the help she needed to thrive.
Character –
Pippa was initially very shut down and wouldn’t leave her crate for the first couple of days after arriving in foster care. However, she has been quite miraculous in her transformation in just a short time with the help of the other dogs in her foster home. She has playful energy starting to creep out. She’s now excited to see her human and enjoys (and will paw for) fuss as long as the approach is calm. She loves her treats, and that’s definitely the way to her heart.
Pippa loves her walks, walks pretty well on a lead and responds well to recall. She leaps in the long grass like a baby deer and has little zoomies once off lead in the secure field with her foster pals. She has been walking with a pack of dogs daily in a secure field off lead and will go off and explore, but regularly comes back and checks in and walks with her human. She likes to explore the undergrowth and there may be a hint of hunting instinct there, so it would be best to avoid small furries in her new home.
This gorgeous girl has quickly overcome her fear of the humans she has built trust with. Her foster carer spent time just sitting quietly by her crate, giving treats or ignoring her, and she watched as the other resident dogs came for fuss and treats, and she became brave enough to join in. Each day she got a little braver, venturing out of her room, exploring the garden, and getting on the sofa. In less than a week, she was hopping on the sofa and snuggling with the other dogs. She will trot out of the door happily on the lead, following other dogs and hop in the car. She is happy on car rides.
Has been 100% clean in the house since her fear of venturing out has gone, and will head for the door when she needs the toilet. Has quickly learned the routines of going out to toilets, meal times etc and she loves her treats. She will climb on things to reach treats as was discovered when she hopped on her crate and was found on the worktop trying to help herself!
Type of home –
Pippa is looking for a home with calm and confident humans. She must go to a home with a confident and friendly dog. Pippa would happily live with her foster sister Pumpkin who she has become good friends with, Pumpkins profile can be found on our available dogs page.
Pippa is look for owners who are dedicated to her ongoing training and socialisation, encouraging her if new experiences are a little scary. She may be able to live with older calm children, who are able to understand she may be nervous of noise and activity initially.
Pippa has started to play with the other dogs when they get excited, like before meal times or waiting to go for a walk, paw boofs and bitey face and likes to play with soft toys or chew on an antler. After her walk she’s happy just snoozing on the sofa with the other dogs.
