Background –
Susie arrived with us from a breeder in Wales, and we don’t believe she has experienced any of the outside world before. When Susie arrived she was heavily pregnant and had a very difficult birth so was poorly, but she has recovered very well and has settled well in foster care.
Character –
Susie (AKA Snoozie) is a loving, friendly and affectionate dog. As her nickname suggests, she spends most of her days sleeping, between playing with her stuffed toys. Susie requests that her new home have a lifetime supply of stuffed toys, as they really are her favourite thing in the world.
Susie is well settled in her foster home and loves to nap. She loves cuddles, and while she doesn’t give kisses, she does show affection by pressing her face into yours. She sleeps through the night, and asks to go outside when she needs it. Susie gets excited to see her person in the morning and does little zoomies to the back door to start her day.
Outside the home –
Susie is confident going out into the garden for toilet time and exploring. She likes the idea of going for walks, and gets excited to put her harness on, but once she gets out on the house she remembers that things are a little scary. With lots of reassurance, Susie can manage a walk around the block. A well-fitting harness will be required though, because she does spook at things, and tries to exit into the nearest house, driveway or garden.
Type of home –
Having been used for babies for most of her life, Susie would really love a retirement home where she is treated like the baby for once! She loves attention and affection. She will need understanding and loving adopters who allow her to come out of her shell and blossom. She would thrive in a calmer home. She would be more than happy to live with quiet, calm children who will shower her with love.
With other dogs –
Outside of the home, Susie is great with other dogs. Susie currently cohabits with one foster sibling. While they can be caught snuggling on the couch, Susie can also show resource guarding behaviours of her stuffies (only guards towards other dogs, not humans). While this behaviour may be due to hormones, and her recent litter of puppies, it does sometimes cause conflicts with the other dog in the foster home.
Adopting –
Although Susie wasn’t able to feed her puppies, we have kept them all together and she will need to stay with them for another few weeks. Susie is in foster care in Bristol and applicants will need to come and meet her here.
