Background

Bertie was given away ‘free to collector’ online and unfortunately suffered a traumatic incident within a day of arriving in his new home. We were asked to take him as an emergency case to get him safe and since then he’s been a total superstar!

Character

Bertie is energetic, playful and very friendly = he loves all people, children and other dogs. His foster family say “He’s a big ball of energy most of the time but also very affectionate and when he settles after a walk or lots of training he likes sofa cuddles, lying on our feet or watching us cook. He loves a trip out and to be able to join us for everything! He settles really well when we take him out with us for a puppycino or a Sunday roast!”

Type of home

Bertie’s new family must have the time and patience to train a lively young Labrador, whilst also being aware that his physical limitations mean he cannot do as much physical enrichment activities and walking as other dogs. Bertie could live with or without another dog. If homed with another dog, they would need to be a playful and tolerant dog. We also think he’d be happy living with older children, he would knock over little ones. Bertie had separation anxiety when he first came into foster care but is starting to be more comfortable when left alone, particularly if in the company of another dog. We think his new family will be able to continue to build up his tolerance with training.

Health –

Bertie does have Hip Dysplasia which he manages well, but his new home will need to be aware of his varying needs at different times.

Adopting

Bertie is is a resident at our Kennels in Somerset and applicants would need to come and meet him here.
